The AVC_DP staff and partners “Gender Sensitive” following a training workshop organized by UN-women

From June 26th to 28th, 2019 in Kribi, the AVC_DP staff and partners participated at a training workshop on the gender approach, with the theme: «Consider the Gender aspect in the planning/ programming cycle of the Project”.

Organized by UN Women, the workshop was part of the technical assistance agreement between the Project and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Gender Empowerment of the AVC_DP.

The training lasted 3 days in Kribi, involving the National Coordinator, as well as the technical staff of the AVC_DP and its implementing partners. These were impregnated on the Gender approach, not only to take ownership of it personally, but above all to ensure its application in a transversal and permanent way, in the implementation of each of the Project’s activities.

As a result, participants were entertained on topics such as:

  • Generalities on gender approach, its importance and its stakes in development;
  • Empowerment of women;
  • Gender issue;
  • Gender tools;
  • The taking into account of gender in the planning cycle, Programming, monitoring and evaluation of a project;
  • Construction / formulation of gender sensitive indicators;
  • Gender and Budget;

This workshop is the first in a series that will continue; its objective is to provide to all the actors and particularly the women from cooperatives of the palm oil, pineapple and plantain sector, with all the skills and the spirit of leadership, in order to contribute to the lifting of the constraints in the important links of these sectors.

Indeed, it should be recalled that the AVC_DP, a joint initiative between the Government and the AFDB for the promotion and development of palm oil, plantain and pineapple value chains, therefore works to implement transversal and related actions, like taking into account aspects related to gender, which aims not only to pool the efforts of all social strata, but especially to allow the female population to enjoy its high potential very often put in hibernation.
